In order to evaluate the operation of DC and AC electric arc furnaces, the amount of electrical power
transferred to the molten bath is a significant item. The main contribution of this paper is calculating the
foregoing transferred power utilizing the arc physical and electrical characteristics. In this paper, first, an
applicable equation for DC arc current density is analytically extracted utilizing the DC arc physical and
electrical parameters such as arc length, arc radius, and arc current. Then, by applying the electromagnetic
laws, a closed form equation for DC arc power is developed. The proposed method is the innovation of the
prepared paper. Likewise, the comparison of the proposed method with the previous published results in
literature shows a desirable compatibility among them and as a result it verifies the proposed approach.
Furthermore, in order to validate the assumptions concerning DC arcs, some experiments are performed and
their results are revealed in this paper.
